Assault Boardriders, 1982-2007
1982 - 2007, twentyfive years on Assaults original owners Glenn and Wendy Bright have sold their Mt Maunganui business Assault Boardriders to Geoff Hutchinson and Cameron Cutmore of Backdoor Surfshops.
The sale brings about some exciting changes and developments for both Assault and Backdoor.
Backdoor
With nine other Backdoor Surf stores around the country, Hutch and Cam have a business scale that enables the introduction of fresh new apparel labels and a wider increased selection of surf, snow and skate hardware.

Since 1982 Assault Boardriders has been a strong force in the growth and development of boardriding sports in the Bay of Plenty and New Zealand.
Surfing, Bodyboarding, Windsurfing, Kiteboarding, Wakeboarding, Snowboarding and Skateboarding. Assault has an unequalled history, experience and reputation in all these boardring sports.
Over the years our team riders have dominated at competition level and our instructors and sales team have lead the industry with friendly down to earth expertise. Locally owned and operated by experienced people who live for and are totally involved in boardriding.
Kiteboarding has rapidly developed and grown in popularity in the Bay of Plenty. Assaults involvement in Kiteboarding from the beginning of the sport in New Zealand has created the opportunity to set up a dedicated kiteboarding operation. The Assault team draws on their vast amount of experience in the boardriding industry and the passion for boardriding to now devote all energies to Kiteboarding.
Totally mobile the AKC operation has all the latest kites, boards and accessories on show in a mobile showroom (The Black Bus). A large purpose built trailer contains the kiteboard school and demo equipment; with a 5m inflatable teaching and support boat, specialist school kites and boards and demo models of the latest equipment. Being mobile enables AKC to be at the beach when and where the wind and tides are best, maximizing all Kiteboarding opportunities.
