Undisputedly one of the most beginner-friendly board riding water sports on the planet.
Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) is all about freedom, exploration, and getting out on the water. Whether you are cruising flat water, exploring coastlines, surfing small waves, training, or simply relaxing with friends and family, SUP offers something for everyone. It is easy to learn, accessible for all ages, and can be as laid-back or performance-driven as you want it to be. All you need is a board, a paddle, and some water.

WHY STAND UP PADDLING?

  • Beginner Friendly: SUP is one of the easiest watersports to learn. Most people can stand and start paddling confidently within their first session.

  • Connect with Nature: SUP gets you out on the water in a peaceful and immersive way. Explore coastlines, lakes, rivers, harbours, and beaches while connecting with the rhythm of the ocean and environment around you.

  • Great Fitness: Paddling naturally improves balance, core strength, endurance, and overall fitness while remaining low impact and accessible to a wide range of ages and abilities.

  • Minimal Equipment: SUP at it's core is simple; a board, a paddle, and a body of water.

  • Versatile: SUP can be whatever you want it to be — relaxing cruises, wave riding, fitness paddling, racing, fishing, yoga, touring, or family adventures.

  • Lifestyle and Community: SUP creates opportunities to get outside, spend time with family and friends, and enjoy the water in a fun and social way.

STARTING OUT:
If your completely new and looking for your first SUP board, here is a guide.

  • Bigger Boards Make Learning Easier: Most beginners learn faster on larger, wider, higher-volume boards because they provide extra stability and confidence while paddling.

  • Calm Conditions Help: Flat water and lighter winds make learning dramatically easier. Harbours, estuaries, lakes, and calm beaches are perfect starting environments.

  • Paddle Technique Matters: Learning proper paddle technique helps improve efficiency, reduce fatigue, better take care of your equipment, and make balancing much easier.

  • Consistency Builds Confidence: Like all board sports, confidence grows with time on the water. Even short sessions help improve balance, paddling ability, and board control.

TYPES OF SUP BOARDS

  • All-Round SUP: The most versatile option. Great for beginners, casual paddling, small waves, and family use. Wider base and higher volume making it a nice, stable option.

  • Touring SUP: Designed for covering longer distances with improved glide and efficiency. Typically longer and narrower than an All-Round SUP.

  • Inflatable SUP: Easy to transport, store, and travel with while still offering impressive performance and durability. Inflating to the recommended PSI is key for better stability.

  • Surf SUP: Shorter and more manoeuvrable boards designed specifically for riding waves. More unstable to stand on when stationary, aims for lower volumes.

  • Race SUP: Long, narrow, high-performance boards built for speed and competition. Probably the most laterally unstable type of SUP due to the narrow base.

PROGRESSING:
Once you feel comfortable paddling, SUP opens the door to many different riding styles and environments.

  • Improve Paddle Efficiency: Better paddle technique increases speed, endurance, and stability while reducing fatigue.

  • Explore Different Conditions: As confidence grows, many paddlers begin exploring ocean conditions, longer tours, downwind paddling, or small wave surfing.

  • Understanding Board Shapes: Board length, width, thickness, rocker, and rail shape all dramatically affect stability, speed, manoeuvrability, and intended use.

  • Learn Water Knowledge: Understanding tides, wind direction, currents, boat traffic, and weather conditions becomes increasingly important as you progress.

SURFING ETIQUETTE:

Like all water sports, SUP has some simple etiquette rules that help everyone stay safe and enjoy the water.

DO's

DONT's

Understand the conditions before paddling

Paddle directly through the middle of the surf lineup

Stay aware of swimmers, surfers, and other water users

Let go of your board in crowded areas

Paddle wide around people already riding waves

Take every wave when others are waiting

Respect local surf breaks and waterways

Paddle in conditions beyond your ability level

Smile, share the stoke, and be patient while learning

Ignore weather or wind changesDrop in - on surfer already on the wave

Nobody gets it right 100% of the time, but if we all do our part we can all share the stoke!

Surfing as a Journey:
SUP is all about time on the water. Every session builds confidence, balance, and technique. Some days are calm and cruisy, others will push your endurance and skill — and that’s all part of the fun. One of the best things about SUP is how versatile it is. Whether you enjoy touring, surfing waves, fitness paddling, exploring coastlines, or simply relaxing on the water, SUP can grow with you for years to come. When you're ready to progress, our team can help you choose the right board, paddle, and gear to suit your ability, goals, and local conditions.
